The Rev. Wallace W. Bubar, Pastor
Wallace has been Pastor of Overbrook Presbyterian Church since 2008.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, he is a 1995 graduate of Baylor University, where he majored in Religion and Philosophy. He graduated summa cum laude, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, where he studied with Martin Marty and concentrated in American religious history. He spent one year as an exchange student at the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen, Germany, pursuing theology and church history. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Emory University in Atlanta, where he focused on worship and preaching, studying the latter with Tom Long. He received several awards at Emory, including the John W. Rustin Award for Outstanding Preaching. A highlight of his seminary experience was the opportunity to take a course with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was a visiting professor there at the time.
Wallace was first ordained as a minister in the American Baptist Churches USA. He served for seven years as pastor of First Baptist Church of Iowa City, Iowa, an historic downtown congregation located directly across the street from the University of Iowa campus. In 2008, he was received into the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Wallace enjoys writing, and has had several articles published in journals such as The Christian Century, Biblical Interpretation, and Minister, and has contributed several articles to the Feasting on the Word lectionary commentary series and the Feasting on the Gospels commentary, both published by Westminster John Knox Press.
Wallace is married to Gabriele Albrecht, a native of Hildesheim, Germany. Together they are the parents of two girls, Magdalena and Sophie. They live in Ardmore.
