Church Staff: Director of Christian Education
Susan Tindall
Growing up in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Susan teethed on several church nurseries, sang in a few church choirs, and ate at a smorgasbord of church potlucks. Somewhere in the middle of all this activity, Susan found a deep love of Christ in people around the country. Whether she was in the middle of nowhere Missouri or an East Coast city, each church demonstrated their love for one another and their love for God in many different ways. In her variety of church life experiences, Susan soon became interested in pursuing pastoral ministry upon realizing her true dream of becoming a professional volleyball player was not a viable option (she's only 5'1).
After attending Millikin University in Illinois for a bachelors degree in Elementary education, she fell in love with teaching but not in the public school classroom. She enjoyed the creativity, goofy Vacation Bible School skits, cheesy music, and overall joy found in Christian Education. With her youth and children's ministry experiences as her foundation, Susan attended Princeton Theological Seminary for a very long time (four years to be exact). After three years, Susan sought a change in her seminary surroundings and moved to Philadelphia.
Susan joined the pilot year of the Seminary Immersion Program founded by Broad Street Ministry and Arch Street Presbyterian Church. Living and working in the city molded and shaped Susan's ideas about ministry in a completely new and different way. Upon graduating in May 2010, she received her MDiv and a Masters in Christian Education. While discerning life after seminary, she coordinated the Pastoral Leadership Conference in Philadelphia but was still searching for a full time position.
Overbrook Presbyterian Church offered the perfect combination of an engaged, welcoming church community with opportunities for Christian Education at all levels. Susan began her current position during the busiest season of the church, Advent. After surviving the flurry of activity, she looks forward to many more holidays and building new relationships with the Overbrook Presbyterian Church community.
During her spare time, Susan enjoys sipping on good cups of coffee while reading a good book. She is also an avid film watcher especially if they are based on good books. Susan considers herself a connoisseur of television and will gladly discuss the upcoming episodes of Glee, Community, 30 Rock and many more!
